Hi
Folks:
Here's an updated route (above) for the
November 22 ride to Avila Hot Springs.
I still need to verify the restaurant
stops, but the road route looks
pretty interesting! It should be
a spectacular ride, weaving down
the back side of the coastal mountains,
across various canyon roads and
scenic locations.
There is one bit of bad news (or
good, depending on your perspective):
I recently had shoulder surgery,
and have been unable to convince
my physiotherapist that leading
motorcycle rides is therapeutic.
(Also, I can't move my arm enough
to get the bike off the center
stand.)
Graciously, Warren Barnes has volunteered
to take a day off from his role
as Club Historian, and lead this
ride as Tour Captain of the Day!
I will continue to work on the
planning and coordination, and
answer any questions you may have
about the ride. This is going to
be a good one
Hot roads, hot springs. And hot pizza! Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 22, when the club ride will take us down to the Morro Bay area, and we'll camp at the Avila Hot Springs Spa (250 Avila Beach Dr, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405,Tel: (805) 595-2359), south of San Luis Obispo. We have a group of sites reserved, a short skip from the hot springs.
After a long ride (perhaps a wet one, given the time of year), it will be nice to soak in the 105 degree water, & enjoy a waft of curative sulfur vapors. If its really nasty weather, and you're Daniel Boone skills are rusty, the Spa has cabins equipped with showers, cable TV, heat, and various other civilized accoutrements. If you intend to wimp out in advance, without waiting to use the weather as an excuse, you can reserve a cabin ($99) by calling the Spa-- let them know you're with the club. 7 cabins are presently available. Each cabin can sleep up to 4 in a double bed and two foldout cots. There is a snack bar near the pool that serves beer, pizza, chicken fingers, etc until 6 pm (did I forget to mention the huge pool? Oops!) There are decent restaurants within a couple of miles, for those who don't like to "ride and cook".
(pcarrie@ecoenergies.com). If the weather's nasty and you don't want to ride back on along the coast along #1 on Sunday, we'll be well-positioned to hop onto #101 and drone back through the rain. Otherwise, an informal Sunday ride up the coast will be a good option.
